I thought Schiefle would be ready this season. How is his development coming along?

He's made the physical change, meaning more muscle and weight. He's made the move to dominate at the Junior level- which was noticeable in the OHL playoffs and WJHC. However we don;t know how he stacks up against Pros.

He will get as much time as he can make the Jets give him during the preseason and beyond0 he jsut has to prove he can play at this level.

Great article Pete! You cover most of my thoughts on the upcoming year. I have two other pieces that I would be interested to hear your opinion on...
1) Back to back - not only are they travelling less this year they have only 5 back to back games, I believe lowest or close to lowest in the league. These have been evil to the Jets and could make a difference in the fight for the playoffs.
2) Level of competition - the Jets did well against teams like Boston who were top notch defence first teams. Against the likes of Washington who are more offensive they got their backsides handed to them more often than not. For all the talk about the tougher more defensive teams in the West, I wonder if that might be more of a benefit that a hindrance to them?

Looking forward to a great year!

Pete - great article as always. In your opinion do you feel Mark will stick with the team this year?

It boils down to this as far as I can tell: the Jets either let him learn via trial by fire or they want him to get pro experience at the lower level of the AHL.

Do they have a viable option at centre without Scheifele? That all depends on Oli Jokinen and what he does. I'm not sure what I think of Jokinen's chances of improvement over last year so if it's as last year the Jets have to decide if they can live with a rookie second line centre and have the patience within the organization to do so.

Does that answer your question
